Data Security And Executive Conversations: The Basis For The e-Book “Breaches And The Boardroom”
I have discussions on a daily basis with executives and their legal counsel on the value of hosting and the importance of the terms and conditions around this hosting that should be present to protect them. It was these executive-level conversations that inspired me to document the lessons that I have articulated many times over in the e-Book, “Breaches and the Boardroom.”
Some executives I meet with are very knowledgeable about data security, but most of them are still learning and need to be educated on the questions they should be asking themselves and the people they rely on to support them. Many have tasked their partners or IT teams with evaluating the deployment method for their ERP solution, which is often the system containing the lion’s share of sensitive or proprietary information. It is surprising how few of them are discussing their security needs at a Board level.
Yet, studies show that cybersecurity has a significant impact on shareholder value. A key finding in an IBM sponsored study points to an important fact: when Boards of Directors play more active roles in the case of data breach, this can reduce the overall costs to the organization.

The breaches discussed in this e-Book are well known examples, but each one gives an important lesson to all of us on security best practices. While it might be easy to dismiss breach cases as old news, or assume that technology has evolved since these occurred, these core lessons are still extremely relevant.
